Hockey Gear Talk is my blog about the sport of hockey. I really love it. Hockey to me has to be the best sport. Yes, I rank it above baseball, football, and basketball. You maybe asking why? Well to be honest, hockey is the fastest sport. Its very physical and dangerous with lots of action. I’m most interested in hockey equipment and the technology behind it. While it can protect players that play the sport, it can also enhance the playing behind it. How much do you think the equipment affects how fast football, baseball and basketball players move? Not much, at least not compared to hockey. Well designed skates can help a players movement ans speed. There are all sorts of things to talk about when it comes to the sport of hockey, the equipment behind it, or anything related.
The NHL has seen some better days. The sports I mentioned above are at the moment doing much better than hockey right now. I do believe however, that it is making a comeback. Yeah I know, I know, just wishful thinking. Slowly, but surely hockey will rise again in popularity. Why is that? Well there are all kinds of variations of it. There are not all kinds of variations of other sports. For example, you can buy hockey equipment for 3 different types of hockey. You can decide to play the sport of ice hockey, which is the most common and get ice skates. Well, what if you don’t live near an ice rink? Well you can play roller hockey and buy some inline hockey gear. Ok, what if you are not so graceful on skates? No problem. There are many places that have foot hockey leagues where people play in sneakers. Another interesting thing is that many hockey goalies in roller hockey aren’t required to wear roller hockey skates as part of their hockey gear. So as you can see, hockey is pretty diverse and can accept all forms of potential players that might be interested. That’s why I love the sport.
For those starting off, and don’t know where to start, you can use the above information like a mountain to climb. You can start off in foot hockey and get familiar with the rules of the sport. After that, you can try inline hockey and learn how to skate and practice some more advanced hockey moves. When you are ready to take the plunge and buy some ice hockey equipment, it won’t be as hard to grasp. How many other sports have a scheme set up like that. I can’t think of any.
Oh, I forgot to mention a fourth variation of hockey that is popular elsewhere around the world. It’s similar to soccer. Yes, its called “field hockey”. Basically if you like to be out in the sun and on the grass and wear as little hockey equipment as possible, than this sport is for you. This sport is popular in America with girls in college and high school.
So you see, hockey is a great sport and offers many options to people who are potential players. What other sport can do that? Its the reason why I love it so much. It can be rough, but that’s why they have protection in the sport. I hope you enjoy my blog and look forward to more information from Hockey Gear Talk.
